[The video snaps on to show Gon, at close range, with his eyes dark. He stares for barely an instant before the video blurs and refocuses on his cheek as he speaks into the receiver.]

This is how I talk to you, right? I don't know where you are yet, but I'm coming to find you right now. You'd better come out and fight me.

All I have to do is beat you, and this place can't last... right?

I'm gonna find you, and make you send me back, because I HAVE TO BE THERE RIGHT NOW--

[The PCD creaks as his hand tenses, and the feed dissolves into static.]

[Gon takes a deep breath as he spots Killua-- it is him, it's not a trick-- and his own aura is flaring before he even thinks about it.

Killua's dressed differently than he was a moment ago at home.

Something is very wrong. Gon's voice is a little quieter, a little calmer: he has to understand before he can fight--]

What's going on?

[He straightens out when Gon seems to cool himself a little. Good. Good, it's still possible for him to handle this.]

Nobody brought you here. This place, it's like a magnet. Okay? If you're unlucky enough to have an opposite charge, you're pulled right into it. There is someone to fight though. Somebody's probably mentioned the animus. They're not normal though. We can't just charge in and demand a fight. Somehow we have to come up with a strategy to beat them at their own game.

Then we can get back.

[His fists are clenching, but. He can understand that. It's something to focus on. It... makes sense. His voice quiets a little more.]

We only have an hour.

You never went missing. And I bet you don't remember me going missing.

[He takes a deep breath before launching into his explanation.]

People show up here from different places and times, Gon. But people who arrived from other people's futures never remember the other person missing.

No matter how long you're here, time doesn't pass back home.

[Bluescreen.]

[Oh dear. He can't drop the "I've been here for over two years" bomb like this. Time to dumb this down a bit.]

Whenever we go back, which we will, we'll go back to the same place and time we left from. Just trust me.

[His voice is shaking, just a tiny bit.]

[Oh, shi- That's when he's from? Killua can't hide the surprise that overcomes his features for a second, but he quickly replaces it with a calm if intense mask.]

You won't miss anything. When you get back, it won't have even been an hour. You'll still be stuck waiting, and you'll wish more time had passed.

[He ducks his head, staring at the ground. It's definitely Killua. And Killua wouldn't lie about something like this. What he's saying is crazy, but ...it's true...?]

You said we had to beat them at their game...

So you know a lot about them already, right?

I know people who know them. [Not that they know he knows them.]

They're stuck here kinda like we are, if anything they've said can be trusted. But if this was a video game, they'd have all the cheat codes. They don't do anything to help. They just screw with us.

[Gritting his teeth.] Even though they're stuck here too?

Yeah. Every other week or so, at least twice a month, they change things around. Sometimes they just do dumb things, and every once in a while, they do fun things, but most of the time, they just want to see us scared. Last week, there were traps all around the place. It was easy to avoid the normal ones, but then there were ones meant just for one person, designed specifically to be able to take them out.

[No need to mention the event before that. Gon never needs to know about that one.]

I am going to take them down. Somehow or another. No matter what people say, everyone has a weakness. Even the animus. But when anyone challenges them straight out, they cheat. So the only way to win is to cheat back.

[Nodding slowly along as he absorbs the information.]

I'm gonna help.

[His smirk widens at that. It's strained at the edges, tinged with the knowledge of something he shouldn't know, but it's the best he can manage so soon. And he has to do his best for Gon. Because this time he's really here, and he can't lose a minute of that time.

Even if working to go back home is the same as working to go back to that frightening scene that hangs in the back of his memory.]

You didn't think I'd tell you to sit back and do nothing after all that, did you?

[They'll beat it, together. They'll get back. And it'll really be okay.

Finally, Gon manages to relax into a smile.]

No way! We'll beat them, together.

Of course! As soon as you cool your jets enough to think straight! If you can call what you do thinking.

[Pokepokeneedleneedle. Oh, dammit, he's missed Gon so. much.]

[Okay, so Killua might... kind of... have a point...

But that doesn't mean he needs to stand here and take it.]

Take that back!

[He leans forward, hands on his hips as he grins wickedly.]

Make me.

[He's just staring at Killua for a brief moment, judging his own condition. Is that really a good idea?

It...

...would be kind of fun.]

[Which means, thinking done, he's diving at Killua and trying to get him in a headlock.]

[Oh, not a chance!

Killua ducks low and to the side, spinning with one leg out, aiming to force Gon onto the ground by kicking down on his back.]

[Oh NO you don't. Tumbling under that leg and spinning around to try and kick Killua's feet out from under him while he still has one foot in the air.]

[Gon successfully knocks him over, but he just lands on his hands before kicking out his legs again, trying to lock them around Gon's middle so he can throw the other boy flat on his face.]
